SAHRC report shows most complaints were race-related

The Human Rights Commission says the majority of complaints it has received pertain to racial discrimination complaints.

The commission has released its 2016/17 trends analysis report on human rights violations.
In that reporting year, the SAHRC says it received more than 400 race-based complaints and over 700 complaints that dealt with issues of inequality.
"The report will reflect that the vast majority of these complaints are related to allegations of racial discrimination against black South Africans. Race-based discrimination presents the greatest challenge to the work of the commission, as evident by the volume and frequency of race-related complaints received by our provincial offices and our head office," the commission's Alexandra Fitzgerald said.
Fitzgerald says the numbers have increased dramatically over the 2015/ 2016 period and has dipped slightly in 2016/2017.
