Limpopo Women's Month launched to advance women emancipation and empowerment As part of linedup series of Women's Month Celebration events, the Limpopo Provincial Government has launched the Women's Month Programme at GaNkwana Village outside Jane Furse on Tuesday 1 August. According to the provincial government, the launch of the Women's Month Programme in Sekhukhune District Municipality SDM , unveiled the 2023 agenda, which focuses on accelerating socioeconomic opportunities for women's empowerment.
The programme includes various activities designed to address the challenges faced by women in Limpopo. These activities include a business venture session, a women's prayer day, sessions on gender equality and an inclusive society, the establishment of cooperatives, capacity building and support for Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises SMMEs , workshops on genderbased violence and addressing issues of depression and fraudulent marriages. The event was attended by esteemed guests and community members, aimed to reflect on the achievements of the Limpopo Provincial Government in women's emancipation and empowerment. Delivering the keynote address. MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture in the province, Nakedi Kekana, highlighted the significant strides made by the Limpopo Provincial Government in advancing women's emancipation and empowerment. Kekana emphasised the importance of capacitating women in critical sectors of the economy, such as technology, construction, mining, transport, and logistics, the government has provided women with the necessary tools, training, and support to excel in these sectors. She also outlined the government's commitment to addressing persisting challenges such as genderbased violence, gender inequality, poverty, and unemployment. "Through partnerships with civil society and the private sector, comprehensive interventions have been developed to combat genderbased violence, promote gender equality, and create economic opportunities for women," she said. MEC Kekana expressed gratitude to the women of Limpopo for their strength, courage and resilience, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to society, the economy and culture. She also extended appreciation to the Limpopo Provincial government, partners, and stakeholders for their unwavering support and commitment to women's emancipation and empowerment. The launch event also featured esteemed speakers, including Mankese Thema from the Human Rights Commission HRC , who encouraged women to emancipate themselves and fight against genderbased violence. Representing the Commission of Gender Equity CGE , Nkhensani Hlekani, emphasised the importance of information reaching women and the use of technological gadgets to ensure accessibility. Peter Malepe, from the Independent Electoral Commission IEC , highlighted the need for fair representation of women in politics and the strengthening of democracy through free and fair elections. The Limpopo Provincial Government said the Women's Month Programme will be championed across all districts of Limpopo, ensuring inclusivity and equal opportunities for all women, in a commitment to empowering women and ensuring that no woman is left behind. The main celebration of Women's Day in the province was held on Wednesday 9 August at Rebone Stadium in Mogalakwena Local Municipality, Waterberg District Municipality. MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Nakedi Kekana, said women play an important role in uplifting the economy in various sectors in the province.
