SAHRC in E Cape to deal with service delivery complaints

19 September 2016

The South African Human Rights Commission is meeting with Eastern Cape MECs and Mayors this week to deal with complaints raised by the public on service delivery and human rights related issues.
The commission will also be visiting schools, children's homes and other Non-Governmental Organisation's to raise awareness on the socio-economic, civil and political rights.

On Monday, they will visit Masizakhe Children's home at Mdantsane outside in East London. The home accommodates abandoned and orphaned children as well as an early childhood care centre.

Provincial Manager for Human Rights, Abongile Siphondo says, "We also received complaints as the South African Human Rights Commission in the province, some of these complaints are related to service delivery, because the Eastern Cape is one of the poorest provinces in South Africa. We received a lot of complaints around socio-economic issues, particularly water, sanitation, housing and so on."

"We want to take some of these complaints to the relevant departments and to ask what are some of the things that those departments are going to do to resolve those complaints."
