Imizamo Yethu community calls on SAHRC to probe cops’ conduct in protests

06 July 2017

CAPE TOWN - Imizamo Yethu community leaders have urged the South African Human Rights Commission to investigate police conduct in the area this week.

A man died during violent protests.

Protesters went on the rampage, bringing the community to a standstill.

Many locals are angry at the slow pace of developing the area following a destructive fire in March that left thousands of people destitute.

Four people were arrested for public violence.

Community leader Ziyanda Phandle said: “We call on the South African Human Rights Commission to investigate the manner in which the police conducted themselves.”
