SAHRC to take action against Edward Zuma over hate speech

28 July 2017

OHANNESBURG - The South African Human Rights Commission is planning to act against President Jacob Zuma’s son, Edward.

The younger Zuma's written a derogatory open letter to former ministers Derek Hanekom and Pravin Gordhan, criticising their stance on white monopoly capital.

In his open letter, Zuma calls Hanekom a white Afrikaner askari, who will do anything to defend their minority privileges.

Zuma describes Gordhan as a sell-out and one of the most corrupt cadres of the ANC.

The Commission says it finds the statements offensive and disturbing, and that they promote racial hatred.

It says the comments are a violation of the right to freedom of expression.
