Sewage water scare in Bloemfontein

4 September 2017

Residents in the Mangaung Metro Municipality continue to suffer as a result of the backlog of municipal services.

This, as the South African Human Rights Commission’s investigations into the appalling state of water and sanitation in the province continue. Residents in Pellissier, Bloemfontein, have in the past week had to live with the stench of sewage flooding their yards. One of the residents, Armand Erwee, says they are experiencing a health hazard as sewage spillages, a lack of water and electricity supply is increasingly becoming the norm.

“My whole garden is currently flooded with sewage. Sadly this also puts children and pets at an extreme health risk”.

He says this also comes soon after their power supply was cut off without any notice. Erwee adds that they also struggle to get hold of the municipality as their emergency telephone lines are not functional.

Erwee says not a month passes without them experiencing one of these problems.

The Mangaung Metro Municipality is yet to respond to OFM News’ enquiries.
