The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education will on Tuesday receive a status report on the situation in Vuwani.
The area has seen a spate of violent protests in recent months. Residents are demanding the area to be attached to Vhembe district Municipality.
School goers have been severely impacted. Residents shut down schools preventing learners from attending and writing their September trial exams.
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will give a report and recommendations to the committee. It is also expected that the Committee be briefed by the Department of Basic Education (DBE), the Department of Safety and Security (SAPS), the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and the Department of Intelligence.
It [committee] will also receive a briefing from the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi) on its 2016/17 annual report.
Also under the microscope are the Justice and Correctional Services set to receive a briefing from the SAHRC on its annual report, a briefing by the Information Regulator on its activities (including organogram, resources needed to fully operationalise it and challenges/risks facing the institution and how they are being addressed).
“There will also be a briefing by the Office of the Chief Justice and Judicial Administration on its annual report,” Parliament communications said.
