Lesufi slams racist remarks

12 October 2017

Gauteng Department of Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has slammed claims that he has labelled the community of Klipspruit west as racist.

“I refuse claims that I have labelled the community of Klipspruitwest as racist, I have never uttered anything that was inappropriate,” he said.

Lesufi was speaking at the South Africa Human Rights Commission (SHRC) hearings in Braamfontien.
The hearing is being conducted to resolve issues of racism in the Klipspruit West community following school disruption in the area.

The problems at the school escalated when the provincial department of education wanted to hire a black president who was labelled as unfit to run the school by the community members.

The school has spent approximately 2 years without a principal after the previous principal who was under-performing resigned.
