SAHRC to tackle issues faced by Mangaung residents

    28 October 2017

Bloemfontein - The South African Human Rights Commission in the Free State is to host a week-long roadshow in the Mangaung Metro Municipality, next week.

This comes soon after the commission said the most violated human right in the province remains the right to water and sanitation.
This, coupled with cases of alleged farm evictions, and corporal punishment at schools, among others.

The road shows themed ‘Amplifying Human Rights Education to Communities’ are expected to educate the residents on how to access justice and procedures to follow when their rights have been violated.

According to the Acting Provincial Manager, Shirley Mlombo, the roadshow are also aimed at tackling these problems and enabling community members to raise issues they are faced with.

In a statement, she adds that the Human Rights Roadshows are an opportunity for the Commission to also directly interact with communities.
The roadshows starting on Monday will be conducted at clinics, informal settlements and taxi ranks.
