DA welcomes SAHRC visit to Rahima Moosa Hospital after recent baby deaths
JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg's Rahima Moosa Hospital is in urgent need of an upgrade to cope with 13 000 births a year, the Democratic Alliance said on Sunday.
"I commend the visit last week by the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to investigate the deaths of nine babies from necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) at the Rahima Moosa Hospital in west Johannesburg," DA MPL Jack Bloom said in a statement.

The South African Human Rights Commission inspected the Rahima Moosa Mother & Child Hospital on 8 November.
The investigation at the Rahima Moosa Hospital followed after a necrotising enterocolitis outbreak at the hospital took the lives of nine infants from March to July 2018.
Head of legal gets his marching orders
Durban - The eThekwini Municipality has fired Gideon Phungula as the head of the legal department after he was found guilty of making racist remarks and of trying to influence the outcome of a disciplinary hearing against a senior official.
These charges stem from a telephone conversation that Phungula had with one of the staff members at the city’s legal department.
A probe was initiated after a leaked audio recording of the call started doing the rounds.

Global fashion retailer H&M has conducted workshops to address the “disaster” following a racially-sensitive advertisement by the company.

H&M responds to ‘racist hoodie advert’ at Anti-Racism conference
Durban - International fashion retailer H&M has learnt its lesson the hard way as negative sentiment towards the company escalated to more than 70% following its “racist hoodie advert” this year.
The retailer shared insights about the interventions it employed, in a two-day conference hosted by the Anti-Racism Network South Africa (ARNSA) last week.
C-word Durban official guilty of hate speech
Durban - Political parties have welcomed the guilty finding against Gideon Phungula, the head of eThekwini Municipality’s legal and compliance unit, on charges of hate speech, racism and gross dishonesty.
Phungula was embroiled in a controversy in September after a phone recording of him referring to city treasurer Krish Kumar using the C-word was leaked. The matter was investigated by the city’s Investigations and Integrity Unit after a complaint was made.
