Cape Town – The South African Human Rights Commission will investigate Western Cape premier Helen Zille’s tweets about colonialism.

“A complaint was received in regards to the violation of a human right. The complaint said the tweet could constitute violation of something in the Bill of Rights,” SA Human Rights Commission spokesperson Gushwell Brooks said on Friday.

This was revealed on Thursday by the chairperson of the portfolio committee on police‚ Frans Beukman in Braamfontein‚ Johannesburg‚ during a dialogue on police and human rights hosted by the South African Human Rights Commission and the African Policing Civilian Oversight Forum.

Kimberley - The Democratic Alliance in the Northern Cape province says it will consult the office of the Public Protector and the South African Human Rights Commission following alleged unfair ward committee elections that took place in Roodepan.

The DA Provincial Leader, Andrew Louw, says the municipality failed to ensure that the ward committee elections for Ward 1 were free and fair. He says last night community members were influenced to vote for names that were on a predetermined list of ward candidates who had been handpicked by the ANC. Louw says they are calling to the speaker of the municipality to launc.
