The Principal of Manyano Primary School at Mhluzi township of Middelburg in Mpumalanga accused of assaulting 14-year-old Siphamandla Choma leaving him wheelchair bound, has been suspended. This follows an investigation conducted by the Provincial Department of Education on the alleged assault of this boy who was accused of stealing R150.

The SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) paid a surprise visit to the severely vandalised Uitzig Secondary School in Cape Town on Tuesday, ahead of a protest by pupils outside the provincial legislature to demand that it is repaired and guarded.

Provincial SAHRC commissioner Chris Nissen and colleagues took in the stripped kitchen, smashed toilets, plundered electricity cables, as well as a trench dug by thieves who stole water pipes.

SAHRC investigating woman in cage incident

The SA Human Rights Commission is investigating whether the rights of a woman who was photographed sitting in a cage in the back of a bakkie, were violated.

The comes after a pig snout was left on the gate of Simon’s Town Mosque and an intruder smeared blood inside Kalk Bay Mosque.
 
Police confirmed on Tuesday that they were investigating both incidents‚ which have also been condemned by City of Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille and Western Cape Premier Helen Zille.

Western Cape education MEC Debbie Schafer has promised to accommodate 7‚900 unplaced learners in schools by the end of the month.
 
She also agreed to report to the South African Human Rights Commission on a weekly basis on progress made to accommodate the learners.

A South African pastor namely Prophet Theo Bongani Maseko, allegedly made his congregants drink ‘Engine Cleaning Fluid’ in order to demonstrate God’s power to them. Photos of the incident appeared on Facebook, showing congregants drinking the fluid with the caption: “The fullness of Christ is in this bottle. Healing and strange deliverance #Mark16:17 -18.”

In 2012, the Pretoria High Court ordered that all prescribed textbooks and learning materials be delivered.
