The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) notes with grave concern, the death of 36 patients who were among the 1300 patients transferred from Life Esidimeni (Esidimeni) to various NGOs. The Commission expresses its sincere condolences to the bereaved families and friends of those who passed away.
This report sets out the findings and recommendations of the South African Human Rights Commission ("Commission") in respect of complaints lodged with the Commission by the African Diaspora Forum, Lawyers for Human Rights, and certain private individuals (3rd – 31st Complainants) residing within the Republic and outside of the Republic.

Concourt clamps down on garnishee orders

JOHANNESBURG – The Constitutional Court has ruled that aspects of the enforcement of garnishee orders are unconstitutional.

With immediate effect, no garnishee order – also known as emolument attachment orders – can be issued, without oversight by a magistrate.
