Tomorrow, 26 July 2017, my colleague, Dr Imran Keeka, and I will lay charges of culpable homicide against the Minister of Health, Aaron Motsolaedi, and the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, for the deaths of the more than 300 cancer patients who tragically died on their watch.

Within an hour of the Record’s article about three girls being locked up in a cage-like room at Roodepoort Police Station going live, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has indicated that it will investigate the incident.

SOUTH AFRICAN Government ministers last week clashed over the alleged "take over" of the city of Johannesburg by foreign nationals as well as their contribution to crime.
Deputy Police Minister Bongani Mkongi was quoted in the media accusing foreign nationals in Hillbrow and surrounding suburbs of economic sabotage. He claimed 80 percent of Hillbrow and surrounding areas was occupied by foreign nationals, the majority of whom he said were engaged in various forms of crime like hijacking of buildings and illegal trade.

DURBAN – The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has agreed to settle its outstanding R6-million bill to Tecmed Africa for providing maintenance to the oncology equipment at Addington Hospital.
In a statement released on Thursday, by Tecmed, the company said a meeting was held on Wednesday, between its representatives, Varian management, KZN Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo and his head of department, Sifiso Mtshali, in which they had “fruitful discussions”.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is encouraged that the Thabazimbi Equality Court has reconfirmed that the use of the k-word as a racial epithet, is unlawful and that those who continue to use it will be held to account.
The commission released a statement on Tuesday highlighting the outcomes of a case heard in the Equality Court last year where an African man was called the ‘k-word’.

The South African Human Rights Commission (Commission or SAHRC) strongly condemns the irresponsible utterances by the Deputy Minister of Police, Bongani Mkongi. On Friday the 14th July 2017, the Deputy Minister, while addressing concerns around crime and hijacked buildings in Johannesburg, Hillbrow in particular, was quoted by media as saying that: "How can a city in South Africa be 80% foreign national? That is dangerous. South Africans have surrendered their own city to the foreigners."

Durban – A deal has been reached between the KwaZulu-Natal health department and radiation oncology treatments and software maker Varian Medical Systems to restart two of the province’s cancer radiotherapy machines. On Wednesday, the department said KwaZulu-Natal health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo had met with Jean-Luc Devleeschauwer president of Varian's Oncology Systems business in Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa.

Yet another person has been held to account by the Equality Court for using the “k” word‚ the South African Human Rights Commission says. The SAHRC welcomed the fact that the Equality Court for the District of the Cape‚ sitting in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court last Friday‚ had once again confirmed that the use of the ‘K-word’‚ as a derogatory racial epithet‚ is unlawful and bears consequences.

PRETORIA – Police Minister Fikile Mbalula on Tuesday said he had directed his deputy, Bongani Mkongi, to correct his recent remarks regarding the prevalence of crime and foreign nationals in Johannesburg. “I’ve gone through what he said, and indeed, that is too rough. I do understand what he said. He was trying to address a problem in Hillbrow … Do you remember what Herman Mashaba said and we came down on him? We cannot say that. We must do what the law permits,” Mbalula said as he addressed journalists during a visit to the Sunnyside police station in Pretoria where he did his annual Mandela Day service.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has condemned allegedly xenophobic statements made by Deputy Minister of Police Bongani Mkongi.

The DA – set to do oversight visits at Addington and Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central hospitals on Monday – were denied access to the medical facilities.
The team led by Patricia Kopane, the national DA spokesperson for health, and Dr Imran Keeka, the DA KZN's health spokesperson, were barred by hospital officials from entering Addington Hospital on Monday morning.
