The National Human Rights Institutions within the Southern Migration Corridor, comprising the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, Malawi Human Rights Commission, Mozambique National Human Rights Commission, South African Human Rights Commission and Zambia Human Rights Commission, have jointly issued an Advisory Note on human trafficking and migrant smuggling. 

The Advisory Note highlights persistent protection concerns affecting victims and survivors across the corridor, including failures in victim identification, secondary victimisation, limited access to justice and inadequate support services. It calls for stronger cross-border cooperation, improved protection and referral mechanisms, greater accountability for perpetrators, and coordinated action by governments, regional bodies, the African Union and development partners to prevent trafficking and protect the rights and dignity of affected persons.
