The Democratic Alliance (DA) Youth will ask the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to investigate remarks allegedly made by Black First Land First (BLF) over the tragedy at Driehoek High School in Gauteng, in which three pupils died and 23 were injured.

The Human Rights Commission has found that disruptions in schools in the Eldorado Park area and ructions in the community were racially motivated. The commission launched an investigation following several incidents of school disruptions, violent protests, and allegations of racism which have often erupted in the area. The protests had resulted in people being prevented from leaving the area to go to work or school, business robberies, threats of violence and heavy-handed responses from police.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has welcomed the South African Human Rights Commission‘s report on Klipspruit West Secondary School.
The school has been in turmoil since 2017 when the Colored community protested against the appointment of a black principal.

Western Cape SAHRC Commissioner Chris Nissen said the meeting with the Magistrates’ Commission was intended to bring the plight of farm workers to its attention.
“We cannot influence the judiciary as it has to remain fair and independent. But the evictions of farm workers, whether legally or illegally, have led to the violation of their dignity as some had to spend days along the side of the road with nowhere to go.”

Yesterday, Executive Mayor of the City of Joburg, Herman Mashaba held a meeting with the MEC for Gauteng CoGTA and Human Settlements, Dikgang Uhuru Moiloa, regarding the reduction of the Human Settlements Development Grant (HSDG) for the City of Johannesburg.

A teacher from a primary school in Schweizer Reneke will be back at work on Friday after the Labour Court lifter her suspension.
Elana Barkhuizen was at the centre of a racial twitter storm over a photograph taken on the first day of school showing a group of black Grade R children sitting at a separate table from a group of white learners.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) says it is making headway with the Vaal River rehabilitation project.
Members of the SANDF were deployed last year to help clean up the river which is currently polluted by sewage. Communities affected by the pollution include Vereeniging, Sebokeng, Boipatong and Sharpeville.

Heaps of trash block the entrance to the rubbish dump in Standerton while the smell of rotting matter permeates the air in the Mpumalanga town.
The Lekwa municipality has been accused of not maintaining the site and dumping rubbish next to the R546, which is the main route to Secunda.
Following a visit to the site, the DA in Mpumalanga laid criminal charges against Mayor Lindokuhle Dhlamini and municipal manager Gugulethu Mhlongo-Ntshangase.

The North West Education Department says a decision on the future of a teacher at the centre of racism allegations at a primary school will be announced soon.
Officials have visited Laerskool Schweizer Reneke after a picture of a grade R class went viral sparking widespread outrage.
It’s now emerged that the teacher who took the photograph was suspended and not the teacher in charge of the class.

SGB chairperson Jozeph du Plessis told the publication on Sunday that the school would be open on Monday.
"We have put appropriate measures in place, but we won't divulge any details at this stage," Du Plessis reportedly said.
This follows a racial row that rocked the sleepy North West town on Wednesday after a photo apparently depicting segregation in one of the school's Grade R classes went viral.

A member of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has landed in hot water after allegedly referring to a civilian as a “straat hotnot”.
This followed a heated argument between the member and Kraaifontein resident Tim van Heerden, who recorded the exchange.
The argument was over Van Heerden’s son and the member's step-daughter and their child.

Another school in the North West has been rocked by allegations of racism.
Learning at Hoërskool Stilfontein has been suspended amid a call by pupils for the removal of the principle amid accusations of racism.
The provincial Department of Education’s Freddy Sepeng says officials were on the way to the school on Monday.
Sepeng says details are still sketchy and the department is calling on parents and learners not to disrupt classes.
