ollowing his testimony at the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) on Monday, one could be forgiven for thinking that eThekwini’s mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda, single-handedly brought about peace and stability in the metro in the aftermath of the July riots.

So self-assured was the mayor regarding his positive influence on matters that he mentioned the word ‘leader’ – in reference to his own leadership – more than 25 times while giving evidence.
