Introduction
Our goal is to reach out to every part of the Free State Province, to every community and to contributing fully to building a culture of human rights in the Province. We intend to be a precedent-setting province and a model to others.  Our experience has shown that the vulnerable and marginalized are those in need of our help. We want our work to be effective, having a progressive and positive impact in the province.

The South African Human Rights Commission invites members of the media to a National Investigative Hearing on human rights violations in South African Khoisan communities.

It with the greatest concern that the South African Human Rights Commission observe yet another video on police brutality and human rights violations, in this case the death of suspect Khulekani Mpanza in Krugersdorp. This unnecessary death opened again the raw debate on policing and crime, the extreme circumstances in which our police find themselves in exercising their law enforcement mandate and the constitutional requirements of human rights and policing. It appears that we have to work much harder on the law and law enforcement.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) notes with concern the growing intensity of student protest at various universities across the country.  Whilst it is clear that the protests point to underlying and systemic factors that require resolution, the Commission is desirous that normality of classes, learning and teaching is restored.  For this reason, the Commission urges all stakeholders to aim to achieve speedy resolution of the issues that give rise to these widespread protests.

The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) would like to thank you for your commitment in being part of the 20 Year SAHRC Commemorative celebrations which included a Gala Dinner and National Conference. On the 24th of September, South Africans will celebrate Heritage Day, one of 12 officially-recognised national holidays. This day gives South Africans a chance to pause and take stock of how the rich diversity of our country can build a better nation.
Heritage is the collected range of practices, traditions, objects and artefacts of a particular cultural group. Attached to each of these is a history, and a meaning through which we may celebrate our values. Heritage is both tangible and intangible, seen in oral traditions, knowledge systems, literature, art, music, dance and food.

The South African Human Rights Commission has launched an investigation in to the living conditions of pupils at the Northwest School for the Deaf following the tragic death of three pupils there.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) welcomes the conviction of the eight former police officers found guilty of murdering Mozambican national Mido Macia.
