JOHANNESBURG – The Constitutional Court has ruled that aspects of the enforcement of garnishee orders are unconstitutional.
With immediate effect, no garnishee order – also known as emolument attachment orders – can be issued, without oversight by a magistrate.

The DA has written to the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, requesting that the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) report be tabled in Parliament and its recommendations given effect to without delay. The SAHRC was charged with investigating the effects of protest action on the quality of education received by our learners across the country.

On 5th August 2016, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) hosted a delegation of Sri Lankan parliamentarians.
The background to this visit is that the Sri Lankan ‘Constitutional Assembly’ is poised to start negotiating a (new) Constitution, which will include a modern bill of rights; seek a political solution (power sharing/devolution) to address the so-called National (Tamil) Issue and provide for a new electoral system (as a chapter in the new Constitution).
