The Commission salutes women for their tireless effort to make South Africa a better place for all, for nurturing children and their communities; and for flying the South African flag high in their small communities, corporate settings, and sports activities.

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC/ the Commission) Eastern Cape Provincial Office (ECPO) is currently investigating concerns regarding the use of space at the Komani Psychiatric Hospital. Psychiatric hospitals in the province are either full or overcrowded, resulting in challenges in accommodating psychiatric patients. Many patients are currently housed in local hospitals, while some are in correctional facilities awaiting transfer to appropriate care.

These activities fall within the provisions of section 184 (1) (c) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa that; the South African Human Rights Commission must monitor and assess the observance of human rights in the Republic.
