The purpose of the visit is to assess the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty in the province.

This follows a complaint received by the Commission in August 2019, in terms of which it is alleged that the Springbok player, physically and racially abused the Complainant in Langebaan during an altercation.

The South African Human Rights Commission hosted a Public Inquiry into the Impact of Rural Land Use and Ownership Patterns on human rights in South Africa. Land has always been a prominent and emotive issue in South Africa. Our history of colonialism, violent conquest, dispossession, forced removals and racially skewed distribution has left us with a complex and difficult legacy.
