The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) North West Provincial Office, working with the Department of Justice and Community Advice Offices South Africa, will conduct capacity building workshops on the right to equality.

The SAHRC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Office in partnership with DOJ &CD will conduct advocacy initiatives with the aim of educating communities on the equality toolkit, and to promoting the use and functionality of equality courts. The Commission will also monitor institutions & organisations servicing vulnerable persons i.e. Schools for learners with disabilities, Old Age Homes and Hospitals.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) Western Cape Provincial Office (WCPO) will conduct a capacity-building workshop for Community Development Workers (CDWs) to train them as Human Rights Champions. The capacity building workshop is aimed at empowering the local stakeholders by heightening awareness about human rights and structures that can help with redress for human rights violations with a specific focus on the role of the SAHRC in promoting, monitoring and protecting human rights.

From 27 September 2021 to 1 October 2021, the Commission in Mpumalanga conducted an investigative inquiry into service delivery challenges within local municipalities in Mpumalanga. The inquiry followed service delivery complaints against various local municipalities in the province over the years. The issues raised in the various complaints included the failure by municipalities to provide water and housing, sewage spillages, sewage treatment challenges, electricity outages, non-collection of refuse and potholes on the roads.
