Limpopo

Achievements
  • For the past three years the Limpopo Provincial Office has managed to successfully resolve numerous human rights complaints related to human rights violations by the government and private individuals. Water and sanitation
  • After the tragic death of a grade 3 learner who drowned after falling into a pit-toilet in Chibeng outside Polokwane, and a subsequent SARHC investigation, Within three weeks of the conclusion of the SAHRC’s investigation, and as a direct result of the Commission’s findings, the Department of Basic Education built new toilets for the benefit of the learners at Malamulele Secondary School, Lukwarani Primary School at Vhembe District. Working with the Department of Basic Education, the SAHRC has thus been responsible for the provision of water and sanitation to more than 15 schools around the province.

Gauteng

The Gauteng Province is the smallest of all the countries provinces with the highest population density. The Commissions Gauteng Office as a result receives a high volume of diverse complaint types and complainants. Its cosmopolitan nature and core as the economic hub mean that a range of issues are brought to the attention of the provincial office involving both policy and new and emerging matters of interest to the region. Complaints against national departments, entities, individuals and businesses located in Gauteng are addressed through the Gauteng Offices of the Commission.

The Eastern Cape communities, particularly rural communities face unique challenges in accessing information on human rights and basic government services. They are underserved and characterised by inferior infrastructure, low income, and myriad of unreported and unchallenged human rights violations. The majority of rural people are poor and largely depend on social grants and agriculture for social progress.
